| Description: | Step into a world where faces rarely grinned and every expression told a deeper story. Why do people in 19th-century photographs appear so solemn—and were they truly as serious as they seem? In this intriguing exploration, we journey back to the 1840s, when photographers prompted their subjects with “Say prunes” instead of “Say cheese.” What did that curious instruction reveal about beauty, technology, and social norms of the time? Through a captivating array of images - including striking portraits of well-known figures - archivist, educator and photographer Gary D. Saretsky’s presentation uncovers the fascinating reasons behind the unsmiling faces of early photography. Join us for this visually engaging and thought-provoking experience. Spouses and significant others are welcome. Tuesday, August 4 at 1PM Cost: $10 Location: Ballroom Facilitator: Sandra Tilis ▪ 732-792-3336 |
