| Description: | Wednesday, May 8th Have you ever been convicted of a crime--rightfully or wrongfully? ----- even as a kid stealing a nickel's worth of candy while your mother took you shopping? Well, if you NEVER "served time" this trip is for you! The Men's Club is taking a bus trip to the "Eastern State Penitentiary" in Philadelphia on Wednesday, May 8th. You will have the opportunity to see one of the oldest Federal Penitentiaries in the United States, which was the "home" of such notables as Al Capone and Willie Sutton among others. "Eastern State" opened in 1829, and held captive some of the most notorious criminals for over one hundred and forty years until its closing is 1971. It was part of a controversial movement to change the behavior of inmates through "confinement in solitude with labor." It reopened for public viewing in 1996. We will be going on a guided tour of the facility and seeing the harsh conditions in which the most violent criminals served their time. No one escaped from "Eastern State!" After the tour we will have lunch at a restaurant in the area, as opposed to eating on "metal trays" in their cafeteria! You won't want to miss this trip as there is not another like it.
