Invites all of FSML to join us in a viewing and discussion of the Academy Award nominated film,
" Water "
The film will be shown in the Sports Lounge on Monday afternoon, July 29 at 1 PM The year is 1938. India is ruled by the British. Ghandi has arrived from Africa to begin the struggle for Independence from Britain, as wells to reform some of the traditions of the Indian Hindu society.
His party is making inroads into social reforms and women rights and concessions to widows.
Many in India are not comfortable with this progressive movement away from " Tradition "
This is the background for the tender, emotional and heartfelt story of a very young widow in the film,
and the struggle within Indian Society of tradition vs. social justice.
Following the film we will have a discussion and time permitting, Larry and Jane Rosendorf will show some video of their trip to Varanassi, India which is where the film was shot.
