For many years the Brandeis Community Service Committee has been collecting used paperback books from FSML residents for Operation Paperback. This program was initiated by Hope Lewis and Ruth Pashkin and coordinated with the Ocean County Office of Social Services. The books are organized, sorted by categories, boxed and labelled to be sent to the military here in the U.S. and overseas. The Ocean County Office of Social Services will be handling all the work our Brandeis volunteers did previously (as well as the costs for the packaging materials and shipping which they always handled).
THIS YEAR WE WILL BE HAVING A CONTACTLESS COLLECTION OF PAPERBACK BOOKS.
DATE: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11TH
TIME: 10-12 NOON
PLACE: FSML CLUBHOUSE ENTRY
Please leave your paperback books in the box at the door.
No steamy topics please!
Operation Paperback recently received a call via the internet from a soldier, Luis Caveras, from Afghanistan. Here are some excerpts:
“The reason for this call is to express heartfelt gratitude for the books that we are receiving over here.”
“It’s a big deal.”
“Because of this Covid situation…we’ll be here for a while.”
“Books give us high morale.” They “keep us motivated.” “We pass them around.” We’re “surrounded by a lot of good people here who love their job and love America.” “Thank you so much for doing what you are doing.”
We are pleased that we can provide our servicemen and women with precious reading once again this year!
