KNITTING PROJECT CLASS - “VERONIKA”
A “swancho” is a cross between a sweater and a poncho. “Veronika” has
a light and swingy body with snug cuffs that make her easier to wear than
a poncho. She’s easy to throw on over almost any outfit. The front and
back curves, so fun and flattering, are created using short rows. This
technique was presented in the Knitting Techniques Lab from the
previous study guide. After the curves, everything is joined, and the
pattern is seamless and circular all the way up. This project is
recommended for intermediate knitters.

DISCOVER HERRONTOWN WOODS
Princeton’s first and most whimsical nature preserve, Herrontown Woods Arboretum, is
a 150-acre gem whose land is preserved in its natural state. Steve Hitner, a botanist and
member of the Friends of Herrontown Woods, will lead us on our walk. We will visit the
award-winning “Barden,” which is a botanical art garden, and walk up to the Verblen
House where the original owners lived. We will have an easy stroll through the grounds,
learning about the plant diversity and the habitat restoration work that has been taking
place. Please wear appropriate clothing and walking shoes! You may wish to venture
into the town of Princeton to have lunch at one of the many great restaurants in town.
Transportation is on your own.

HAUNTED HISTORY OF NEW JERSEY With Halloween on the horizon, join historian Greg Caggiano for a look at the "other side" of history. As a seasoned paranormal investigator, Greg has always been interested in things that go bump in the night at historic sites in New Jersey. He has served on two museum boards over the years, both of which were haunted! Profiled in this presentation will be a Royal Governor's former residence, a Victorian mansion, a house with Revolutionary War notoriety, a cemetery, a legendary road and a former military base. And what would a Halloween-themed talk be without a visit from the Jersey Devil? History and myth intertwine in this spooky program. Spouses and significant others are welcome.
