Shalom Club Chanukah Celebration Sign Up
Tuesday, November 5th, 2019, All Day Event at Lobby
The Shalom Club
Presents
"A CHANUKAH CELEBRATION"
Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 8:00
Opening the show will be Dee Best Entertainment featuring Dee's Guys, an experienced male vocal trio (including Peter Weiss, a former FSML resident), who add harmony and lead vocals, and Dee Fisher, a superb vocalist with a silvery voice that will bring joy to your ears. Their vocal repertoire covers Motown, DooWop, Classic Rock, 60's Pop and R&B. A Chanukah favorite will also be included. A small area will be set aside for those who wish to dance to the music. The group performed at FSML this year at an Italian-American party in August and at the St. Patrick's Day party and had excellent reviews at both events.
After the live show, the video "A Taste of Chanukah" will be shown. This holiday concert is hosted by Theodore Bikel, and it brings together over 150 musicians from the New England Conservatory of Music, a Klezmer band, the Boston Community Gospel Choir, and a children's chorus. The program features a broad range of music from around the world including traditional Chanukah favorites and special arrangements of light hearted songs. There will also be a humorous demonstration of how to properly make potato latkes.
If you wish to attend this show, place a check (made out to FSML) for $10 pp in the Shalom drawer in the lobby between November 5th and November 12, 2019. After this period seats will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. If we are sold out by November 12th, a management-supervised lottery will be held. After November 12th, if we are not sold out, friends and family may attend at a cost of $12 pp. Ice cream will be given out after the show.

Shalom presenting a Movie "Marshall
Friday, November 8th, 2019, 8pm to 10pm at Clubhouse Ballroom
Your Shalom Club
Presents
based on a true 1941 case, will be shown on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 8:00 in the ballroom. Thurgood Marshall, a young lawyer and future Supreme Court Justice, must defend a black chauffeur charged with sexual assault and attempted murder of his white socialite employer. Muzzled by a segregationist court, he partners with a courageous young Jewish lawyer, Samuel Friedman, to defend their client. The actual case does not take place in the South, as you might expect, but in a quiet wealthy Connecticut community.
The Connecticut socialite Eleanor Strubing, appeared on a highway in Westchester County, New York, soaked, battered, and frantic late one night in December, 1940. The story she told riveted the nation. She claimed her chauffeur had raped her four times, kidnapped her, forced her to write a ransom note for $5,000 and then thrown her off a bridge. The New York Times headlined the story, "Mrs. J.K. Strubing Is Kidnapped and Hurled Off Bridge by Butler." the day after it happened.
The only problem with Strubing's story: it was filled with inconsistencies. The accused, a 31-year-old man named Joseph Spell, had a different version of the events of that night. Fortunate for him, his claims of innocence had a friendly ear: that of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and its head lawyer, a 32-year-old from Baltimore named Thurgood Marshall.
This movie is free and is open to all residents. Bring your own snacks. A discussion, "fact or fiction", will follow the movie.

Wine Club Tasting
Tuesday, November 19th, 2019, 7pm to 10pm at Clubhouse Ballroom
Greetings All!
Our November Wine Tasting is Tuesday, November 19th when we will feature “Wines for the Holidays” and all the 8 wines selected will be wonderful for our Thanksgiving turkey dinners! Committee members Pat Hybbeneth and Lenore Allocca chose the 4 White wines and 4 Red wines we will have. The wines range in price from $14.99 to $22.99 and come from France, Italy, Spain, California and Oregon. All are delicious! Our “nibbles” for this evening will include turkey so you can see what works best for your palate!
We will follow our typical format for the evening. Tables will be set for 8 places each and there is no assigned seating. Folks will enter through the Lobby to the Veranda where you will pick up your name badge and raffle ticket. We will start at 7 PM and doors will open at 6:45PM. Please BRING your wine glasses with you to this tasting. Wine tastes so much better in a glass than a plastic cup!
This tasting will cost $20 per person. Checks should be made payable to FSML – Wine Club with the notation November in the memo line. Please place them in the Wine Club lockbox #27 in the Clubhouse Lobby. NO envelopes are necessary. Please have your checks in the lockbox NO LATER than Friday, November 15th to ensure we have enough places set and food available for all attendees.
If you have any questions, please email me at carole@caobrien.com or Joyce DeSiena at jds0506@yahoo.com
See you on the 19th!
Cheers!
Wishing you the best,
Carole
