BRANDEIS NATIONAL COMMITTEE/HARMONY CHAPTER
Join us on May 6th for a return visit to Mandir, the (BAPS) temple. When construction is finished in 2020, it will be the world's largest Hindu temple and it is located in Robbinsville, NJ. The New Jersey structure is made of Italian marble -- more than 13,000 stones' worth, according to BAPS -- which traveled first from Italy to India where it received traditional carvings from 2,000 artisans in Rajasthan before making the journey to New Jersey. The finished pieces were then assembled in New Jersey by a team of master craftsmen.
We will tour this amazing temple and learn about the BAPS culture and religion. The tour will consist of a short video showing how the Mandir was constructed, a tour of the Mandir , an Observance of the Mid Day worship Service/ Aarti and a brief Q and A session . You will be then able to visit their food court and/or gift shop. Lunch will be on your own.
It has been three years since we last toured the temple and we are looking forward to seeing all of the new additions to the complex. Whether this will be your first time or a revisit, we promise you will be transported into an unbelievable cultural experience a short trip from home.
Date: Tuesday, May 6th. Travel will be on your own by car. Directions will follow.
Time: The tour begins at 10:30 am and will last about 1 1/2 hours.
Cost: $8.00 Any amount over $3.00 (Fair Market Value) is a charitable contribution to Brandeis National Committee’s Magnify the Mind Campaign in support of faculty research in neurodegenerative disorders.

The Shalom Club breakfast will feature an illustrated lecture by Historian Marty Schneit. His topic is titled "Jewish New York," and he details how Jewish America started in New York. Marty will talk about the Jews of Brighton Beach, Temple Emanuel, the Brownsville Girls, Shearith Israel, the Andrew Freedman House, Eldridge Street Synagogue, Rebbe Schneerson, Zabars, Washington Heights, the egg cream, and Henny Youngman.
The breakfast will include bagels, butter, jelly, and a selection of three different types of cream cheese: plain, lox, and vegetable. Coffee will also be served. The cost for this event is $6.00 per person. If you wish to reserve a table, or part of a table, submit the official table form in an envelope with all of the checks (made out to FSML Shalom Club) on May 8th or 9th. One, two, three, or four members who wish to attend do not have to submit a table form. After May 9th acceptance will be on a first come, first serve basis. If we are oversold on May 9th, a management supervised lottery will be held.

Wednesday, May 8th Have you ever been convicted of a crime--rightfully or wrongfully? ----- even as a kid stealing a nickel's worth of candy while your mother took you shopping? Well, if you NEVER "served time" this trip is for you! The Men's Club is taking a bus trip to the "Eastern State Penitentiary" in Philadelphia on Wednesday, May 8th. You will have the opportunity to see one of the oldest Federal Penitentiaries in the United States, which was the "home" of such notables as Al Capone and Willie Sutton among others. "Eastern State" opened in 1829, and held captive some of the most notorious criminals for over one hundred and forty years until its closing is 1971. It was part of a controversial movement to change the behavior of inmates through "confinement in solitude with labor." It reopened for public viewing in 1996. We will be going on a guided tour of the facility and seeing the harsh conditions in which the most violent criminals served their time. No one escaped from "Eastern State!" After the tour we will have lunch at a restaurant in the area, as opposed to eating on "metal trays" in their cafeteria! You won't want to miss this trip as there is not another like it. This trip is open to both men and women. The price for the trip is $60 pp for 2019 MC members. Put your checks in the Men's Club box payable to “FSMLMen’s Club.” In the memo put "Eastern State” NOW. This trip is sure to close out fast.

REGULATION #1300.01 ARCHITECTURAL STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES
13) Whole House Natural Gas Generator – (ACC Approval Required) Installation of a Natural Gas Fired Permanent Back-up Emergency Generator must meet the following requirements:
- A completed Modification Request Form must be submitted with the following documentation:
- A $250.00 performance bond check, payable to FSML.
- A complete set of drawings and manufacturer brochure depicting width, length, height, decibels, make and model number of the generator, color of the unit (which must be compatible with the overall color scheme of the community and approved by the ACC).
- The generator unit should be located on the same side as the central air conditioning unit and the gas meter. The ACC may consider an alternative location in the back of the home if requested.
- The contractor’s Certificate of Insurance and the proper licenses must be submitted (See the proper insurance wording on the Modification Request Form cover sheet).
- A Lot Survey and a drawing depicting the exact location for the installation of the generator.
- If sprinkler heads must be moved, a written estimate from Down To Earth and a check payable to DTE for the moving of irrigation lines and sprinkler heads.
- An executed Hold Harmless Agreement for the installation of a Natural Gas Emergency Generator.
- In addition, the following must be adhered to:
- The unit cannot impede the lawn swales.
- The unit must be installed a minimum of 18” (eighteen inches) from the home or per manufactures specification, whichever is greater. It must be located a minimum of 5’ (five feet) from any window or door opening and cannot interfere with the swale between the homes.
- Acceptable sound levels will be no greater than 75 decibels (equivalent to that of the central air conditioning units currently in use).
- The installation of an approved pad consistent with the manufacturer’s recommendation.

- Any schedule for testing requirements must be performed between the hours of 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm.
C. If all of the above requirements are met, the ACC will provide preliminary written approval. Once the
preliminary approval is provided, the homeowner may commence with the application to the
Township.
D. It may be necessary for the vendor to contact the gas company to determine if the existing meter is large
enough to handle the load.
Upon Township approval, a copy of all the Township variances and/or permits (electrical, plumbing) must be submitted to Property Management for ACC review. If this meets with the approved guidelines, the ACC will provide written approval for the modification to commence.
Upon completion of the modification, copies of the Township’s final inspection, approvals are to be submitted to Property Management. A final inspection from the ACC will be scheduled for the return of the $250.00 performance bond check.

Auschwitz: Not Long Ago, Not Far Away - September 25,
2019
For the first time,74 years after the liberation of Auschwitz, a traveling exhibition dedicated to the historical significance of the camp will be presented to a U.S. audience. The exhibit will arrive in New York City after a very successful run at Madrid's Arte Canal Exhibition Centre, where it was extended two times and drew more than 600, 000 visitors. The exhibition explores the dual identity of the camp as a physical location and as a symbol of the borderless manifestation of hatred and human barbarity.
The exhibit features more than 700 original objects and 400 photographs, the New York presentation of the exhibition will allow visitors to experience artifacts from the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum on view for the first time in North America including hundreds of items that belonged to survivors and victims. Auschwitz; Not Long Age, Not Far Away traces the development of Nazi ideology and tells the transformation of Auschwitz from an ordinary Polish town known as Oswiecim to the most significant Nazi site of the Holocaust.
The Museum has incorporated into the exhibition more than 100 rare artifacts from its collection that relay the experience of survivors and liberators who found refuge in the greater New York area. It includes such items as visas issued by Chiune Sugihara a Japanese diplomat often referred to as "Japan's Oskar Schindler." A documentary film of his work was presented at FSML two years ago. The exhibit also includes tickets for passage on the St. Louis. A passenger who was on the ship as a baby was our speaker at a Shalom breakfast a few years ago. The exhibit includes many items to numerous to mention in this notice.
This trip will take place on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. The bus will leave FSML at 9:00 AM. The cost for this trip, including admission, is $40 per person. If you wish to participate, place your check, made out to FSML Shalom Club(memo-Museum), in the Shalom drawer in the lobby starting May 9, 2019. Space will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis. If we are oversold on that date a management supervised lottery will be held. The guided tour will last 90 minutes. Lunch is available on your own at the Museum and in nearby restaurants.

Please join us for our 9th annual Men's Club Senior Healthcare Seminar at CentraState Hospital on Wed. May 15th, at 8:00 A.M. through lunch. This is an open invitation to all members.
For all those who attended in the past, this year will have new guest speakers plus interactive workshops.
As always the program will include a free breakfast and a free luncheon to follow the morning educational program. The past programs have been informative and fun. For those who have never attended, this is a very special program that directly addresses men's health issues as we age.
In the past, over 75 men have attended. Each of these seminars have been very favorably received. Looking forward to seeing all of you. Program takes place in the Star & Barry Tobias Ambulatory Campus at the Conference Center.

In their engaging performances, they perform as a duo backed by piano and high-quality backing tracks to create the atmosphere of a full band. Their repertoire includes Broadway favorites, Rock and Roll oldies, the Great American Songbook, today's biggest hits, and many other classic songs. They have delighted audiences for many years, and they have established a reputation in the entertainment industry for their high-quality presentations.
The opening act for this show is comedian Robin Fox. She spent 17 years as a full-time mom and dieting. Then one day she decided to give up dieting and decided to make her lifelong dream a reality and become a comedian. Original and funny, she talks from her heart about the frustrations of suburban living, marriage and raising a family. She is now a regular at the top clubs in NYC and surrounding areas. She has been a finalist at several prestigious comedy contests, and in 2010 she was the winner of the Gilda Radner Comedy Award. She was highly recommended by several people who have seen her perform.
The cost for this show is $18 per person. If you wish to attend this show, place your check, made out to FSML Shalom Club, in the Shalom drawer in the lobby from May 18th to May 21st. If we are not sold out by May 21st, remaining seats will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

The Shalom Club breakfast will feature an illustrated lecture by Historian Marty Schneit. His topic is titled "Jewish New York," and he details how Jewish America started in New York. Marty will talk about the Jews of Brighton Beach, Temple Emanuel, the Brownsville Girls, Shearith Israel, the Andrew Freedman House, Eldridge Street Synagogue, Rebbe Schneerson, Zabars, Washington Heights, the egg cream, and Henny Youngman.
The breakfast will include bagels, butter, jelly, and a selection of three different types of cream cheese: plain, lox, and vegetable. Coffee will also be served. The cost for this event is $6.00 per person. If you wish to reserve a table, or part of a table, submit the official table form in an envelope with all of the checks (made out to FSML Shalom Club) on May 8th or 9th. One, two, three, or four members who wish to attend do not have to submit a table form. After May 9th acceptance will be on a first come, first serve basis. If we are oversold on May 9th, a management supervised lottery will be held.

The History Club will be visiting the Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia on Monday, May 20, 2019.
Please View their website. It is a gem. In addition to many Maritime exhibits they also have three ships on the Delaware River that we can tour.
Admission is $14 for seniors. If we have a large enough group the cost might be reduced. Everyone will pay their own fees.

WINE CLUB
Our May Tasting will be held on Tuesday, May 21st when we will be having our “Blind Tasting Contest!” This time we will be trying to determine which wines are which! All the wines will be selected from those we have previously enjoyed at a tasting. Tom Mitchell will select the 4 White Wines and 4 Red Wines we will be identifying and he will provide our commentary for this tasting. Prizes will be awarded for those with the “right” answers.
We will also include our “Wine Shirt Contest” for those members wanting to participate. Shirts may be store bought, “personally decorated” or a combination of both. We will have three categories - most original, most fun & voted the “best” by the attendees. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
We will follow our usual format for the evening. Enter through the Lobby to the Veranda where you will pick up your name badges and raffle ticket. Tables will be set for 8 paces each and there is no assigned seating for this tasting. Please do remember to bring your wine glasses with you - wine tastes so much better in a glass than a plastic cup! Doors open at 7PM and we will start our evening at 7:15 PM due to the Mixed Bocce schedules.
The cost for this tasting will be $20 per person and checks should be made payable to FSML – Wine Club with the notation May in the memo line. Please place your checks in the Wine Club lockbox #27 in the Clubhouse Lobby NO LATER THAN Thursday, May 16th . This ensures we have enough food and places set for all attendees.
