As the school year closes we are thinking about the students that will need supplies for the next school year. July 2, 2019. at 1 PM. We will show a one hour video of a 2 person reenactment of the fascinating and often perplexing life of our 31st president who has been named both " The Great Humanitarian " and the president responsible for " The Great Depression. "
Following the video we will have a short slide presentation on " Presidential Libraries " and a Q and A.
Please note, we will be meeting in the ballroom as this will provide us with better seating and access than the our usual meeting place ( the Sports Lounge ). Our moderator will be Larry Rosendorf.

Brandeis will be holding 2 community food collections over the summer months for the Jackson Food Pantry. The dates are as follows; Please “mark your calendars”:
July 13 - Saturday, 9am to 11am
August 10 - Saturday, 9am to 11am (detailed email to follow later month)
Collections will be near the gazebo in parking lot by clubhouse.
The items for the JULY collection are as follows:
FOOD ITEMS: Can veggies (corn, green beans, carrots); can/jars red pasta sauce; box/packaged dry pasta (spaghetti, ziti, etc); “a lot of” box/packaged Mac n Cheese for kids; can fruits-peaches or fruit cups;
Juice packs-flavors/apple or large bottles; single bottled water-24 packs etc; boxed Cereals (kids/adults); package/can tuna or chicken; peanut butter n jelly, dry boxed jello (not cups).
PERSONAL CARE ITEMS: tooth brushes and toothpaste (kids/adults);
Bar soap packs or individual; 4 pack toilet paper rolls ONLY; women’s sanitary needs (pads); deodorant (men/women) NOTE: DO NOT SEPARATE any packaged products.
All food items MUST BE non perishable, new, unopened items that do not have expired dates. A similar detailed list for August will be sent in later July listing the items for that collection.
Plastic Bags are also being collected and are much needed to bag food at pantry. Tote bags also accepted.

Every donation counts in order to keep the Jackson Food Pantry operating and feeding 100+families and seniors in the Jackson community.

Our July wine tasting on Tuesday, July 16th will “close out” our 2018-2019 Club year! Join us as we feature French wines in honor of Bastille Day. We will taste 4 White Wines and 4 Red Wines - all French which were selected by Committee members Bill Hybbeneth and Bob Skeele. We will welcome Jeff Feinberg, President of Citadel Trading Corporation of NY, who will be our speaker for the evening. The wines range in price from $10.99 to $19.99 per bottle. Our usual “nibbles” may well feature a “French” flair for the evening!
This evening will follow our typical format. Tables will be set for 8 places each with no assigned seating. Folks will enter through the Lobby to the Veranda where you will pick up your name badges and raffle ticket. Any new member will have their wine glasses waiting for them – and they will need to be able to cart them home with them. Since the Bocce season is over we will again begin our festivities at 7 PM.
This tasting will cost $20 per person. Folks should make their checks payable to FSML – Wine Club with the notation “July” in the memo line. Please place your checks. - no envelopes needed - in the WINE Club lockbox #27 NO LATER than Friday, July 12th to insure we have enough places and food set for all attendees.

It was more than a boxing match. It was democracy and race vs.Nazism and racial purity.
Hitler had risen to power and preached racial superiority. He portrayed Schmelling as an example of that superiority.
Schmelling had won the first fight against Louis in 1936. The 1938 rematch lasted only 124 seconds, but is remembered as one of the outstanding events of the 20th century. See the story behind the story as the world powers moved closer to WW2.

ANOTHER BROOKLYN CLUB TRIP TO OUR HOMELAND
Our last trip was to DUMBO (down under the Manhattan Bridge overpass), and we walked the Brooklyn Bridge. We have now planned our 8th trip to Brooklyn. This year's trip will be on Wednesday, July 24th to Coney Island. Because of all the possible sites to visit, we have limited our trip to just this area.
We are fortunate to once again have Art Zuckerman, a well-renowned tour guide, as our trip's docent. Art has his own radio show and has been seen on the travel and history channels.
Stops on our Coney Island trip

Ballpark Gallery Museum which contains Brooklyn Dodgers memorabilia up to 1957 (before they moved to LA).

Coney Island Museum where you will see the history of Coney Island including Steeplechase Park, Raven Hall's swimming pool, etc.

Private tour of the Coney Island Brewery as well as samples of their beer

Special live show called The Coney Island Circus Side Show that will really bring you back to the past of Coney Island

World-renowned Coney Island Aquarium

Optional: Walk the boardwalk

maybe go on a ride or two at Luna Park (maybe???).

Our bus will ride through Brighton Beach where you will feel as if you are actually in Russia!
Wherepossible, some of these stops will be docent-led tours. Art, of course, will continue his narration as we continue from stop to stop on the bus.
Lunch will be on your own. Here are two suggestions. Nathan's, of course, and across the street is Grimaldi's pizza. Grimaldi's is rated as the #1 pizza establishment in Brooklyn. Nathan's, on the other hand, speaks for itself.

Shalom Club- 2019 CJSCC Summer Show

The FSML Shalom Club presents the 2019 CJSCC Summer Show
The CJSCC (Central Jersey Shalom Cultural Clubs) has begun selling tickets to the 2019 Summer show at the Jackson Memorial High School. The show will take place on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at 2:00.
The show this year will feature the famous Catskill comedian Freddie Roman. Freddie was the creator, packager, and star of the ground-breaking Catskills On Broadway show. He recently appeared at a
member Shalom Club and they gave him rave reviews for his performance. Freddie serves as the Dean(President) of the New York Friars Club, the oldest and most influential brotherhood in the world of show business.
The opening act will be Broadway Tonight, a varying group of Broadway professionals who will sing and dance to songs from the most popular Broadway shows. Broadway Tonight entertained at FSML this past October
and many in our audience said it was the best show ever at our community.
Last year we sold 150 tickets to see DU Du Fisher. However, this year we will only be allotted 76 tickets since additional Shalom Clubs have joined the CJSCC. The cost for tickets,
on a first come, first serve basis is $30 per person.If you wish to attend the show place your checks, made out to FSML Shalom Club, in the Shalom drawer in the lobby ASAP.

The year is 1938. India is ruled by the British. Ghandi has arrived from Africa to begin the struggle for Independence from Britain, as wells to reform some of the traditions of the Indian Hindu society.
His party is making inroads into social reforms and women rights and concessions to widows.
Many in India are not comfortable with this progressive movement away from " Tradition "
This is the background for the tender, emotional and heartfelt story of a very young widow in the film,
and the struggle within Indian Society of tradition vs. social justice.
Following the film we will have a discussion and time permitting, Larry and Jane Rosendorf will show some video of their trip to Varanassi, India which is where the film was shot.
